Pink Shirt Day
February 28, 2018
Pink Shirt Day is celebrated across Canada on the last Wednesday of each February. The day originated in Nova Scotia when a male grade nine student was bullied for wearing a pink shirt on the first day of school. The next day, two of his schoolmates distributed 50 pink shirts to be worn in solidarity against the bullies, and hundreds of others showed up in their own pink shirts. The movement spread across Canada to commemorate youth action against bullying and more specifically against gender policing and anti-gay bullying.
